NORTH YORK: 'Persons of interest' located in Angelica-Leslie case
Abandoned child's adoption proceedings put on hold for a month
Adoption proceedings for Angelica-Leslie, the baby girl found abandoned in a North York stairwell in January, are on hold as police explore a few leads that may help them locate the child's parents."We have a couple of leads that we've come across," said 33 Division's Det. Keith Moxley, adding that the leads aren't necessarily concerning family members but "persons of interest" that could provide them with information about her family.
"We're optimistic. We're making every possible effort to locate the parents and we're also seeking the perpetrator that abandoned the child in the stairwell," he said.
Children's Aid Society spokesperson Melanie Persaud confirmed reports that officials from her organization have asked a judge to grant them a four-week adjournment in the child's adoption proceedings.
"(The police) have what they believe is a good lead," she said.
Angelica-Leslie, found in an abandoned stairwell in a plaza at Leslie Street and Finch Avenue East, is doing well in foster care. About 80 families have already expressed interest in adopting the child, who is about 11 months old.
