Baby steps lead to newborn centre
Scarborough's Tamil community organizes fundraising walk
The path to a new Birthing and Newborn Centre at Rouge Valley Health System is covered with "baby steps."For the second year, Scarborough's Tamil community will hold its Baby Steps Walkathon in support of the new centre,
"We are very committed to helping to raise funds for the building of this new centre," said Kula Sellathurai, a member of the hospital foundation's board of director and chairperson of the walkathon.
This year's walk will be held May 25, beginning at Malvern Town Centre at 31 Tapscott Rd. It will proceed south on Neilson Road to the hospital's Centenary site at 2867 Ellesmere Rd.
Once walkers arrive at the hospital, they will be treated to activities and an awards presentation.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the mall and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. The first 100 to register will receive a $5 gift certificate courtesy of the mall.
Walkers who raise more than $20 in pledges will receive a t-shirt while supplies last.
A free shuttle service will operate between the mall and the hospital until 2 p.m.
