Former councillor appointed as new TCDSB trustee
Rob Davis fills seat vacated by Christine Nunziata
Former city councillor Rob Davis was officially appointed Thursday as the new Toronto Catholic District School Board trustee representing the former city of York. Davis fills in the Ward 6 seat vacated by Christine Nunziata in February for missing four consecutive regular board meetings.
"Some parents approached me and suggested I put my name in," said Davis, who was selected by the board from among 15 community members who applied for the trustee position. "I'm quite humble by the opportunity to serve."
The longtime York resident said he is ready to "hit the ground running" and tackle some of the high priority issues affecting students in the community.
But with the release of a recent report that highlighted questionable trustees expenses, Davis said the board needs to get to the bottom of this controversial issue.
"This is taxpayers' money and we need to be accountable," Davis said. "I think the trustees involved need to respond."
Then he hoped the board can move forward and start addressing pressing issues. Those include the need for adequate funding to repair school buildings like Loretto College, Davis said.
There is also the overcrowding issue at St. John the Evangelist, he noted, while other schools are underenrolled and could be in danger of being consolidated.
"These are serious issues," Davis said.
He will represent more than 33,000 Catholic supporters from Ward 6 schools, which include Holy Rosary, Our Lady of Victory, Pope Paul VI, Santa Maria, St. Alphonsus, St. Bruno, St. Clare, St. John Bosco, St. John the Evangelist, St. Mary of the Angels, St. Nicholas of Bari, Stella Maris, Archbishop Romero, and Loretto College.
