The Toronto Rock is partnering with Beaches and Mimico Minor Lacrosse this summer to present the First Annual Toronto Rock City Cup on Wednesday, July 16.

The event will feature two of Toronto's biggest minor lacrosse associations, Beaches and Mimico, playing a best-of-three series tournament.

Both Beaches and Mimico will bring their all-star novice, peewee and bantam teams to face off against each other in this inaugural event.

"The Toronto Rock are thrilled to bring together some of the city's best young lacrosse players to compete against each other and showcase their talents," said Brad Watters, managing director for the Toronto Rock.

The Toronto Rock City Cup is free for all fans and will take place in the Toronto beaches at the outdoor rink/box at the base of Kew Gardens.

The festivities kick off at 4 p.m. with an opening ceremony for the tournament and conclude at approximately 9:30 p.m. when the winning club has been determined and the cup and medals have been handed out.

"Rock lacrosse has excited Toronto fans for 10 years and has inspired young lacrosse players throughout the province," said Martin Tulett, Toronto Beaches Lacrosse Club president.

"(We) are thrilled to host the inaugural Toronto Rock City Cup and hope this endeavour will grow this great game throughout the city."

Other activities during the event include an inflatable lacrosse target game, food and drink service as well as face painting and other activities.

The Toronto Rock, Mimico and Beaches lacrosse will have tents set up with information and merchandise available and fans will also have a chance to win some prizes.

"Kew Gardens provides the perfect venue to kick off what promises to be a stellar annual event bringing Rock players and the Toronto lacrosse community together for an exciting night of fun and entertainment," Watters adds.

Mookie Wilson, the in-game 'Voice of the Rock' and morning show host on New Country 95.3, will host the on-floor activities.

Kids will have the opportunity to participate in an on-floor scrimmage with the Toronto Rock players and take part in a lacrosse stick trick challenge. The Toronto Rock ask that all kids wishing to participate in the on-floor activities come prepared with a helmet and gloves.

Fans are encouraged to take the TTC as parking in the area is limited. For TTC routes, maps and an event schedule, visit www.torontorock.com

In the case of rain or bad weather on July 16, the City Cup will move indoors to the Ted Reeve Arena at Gerrard Street and Main Street in Toronto.
